Travis Scott was arrested in Paris earlier today, apparently after fighting with his bodyguard.

An altercation broke out at the fire-star George V Hotel between the rapper and his own bodyguard. Reports suggest that a security guard at the hotel tried to intervene to end the fight, but that he in turn was struck. Reports in the French media claim that Scott was inebriated at the time.

French prosecutors told the Reuters and AFP news agencies they had opened a criminal investigation into "unspecified violence" against the guard. The prosecutor’s office has referred the case to the 1st District of the judicial police. The police, French authorities have said, are still investigating.

A representative for Travis Scott spoke to BBC: “We are in direct communication with the local Parisian authorities to swiftly resolve this matter and will provide updates when appropriate.”

Scott, real name Jacques Bermon Webster, was in Paris for the Olympic Games. On Thursday evening, he was photographed at Team USA's Olympic basketball match against Serbia, a game in which the USA rallied to claim victory. He was caught on camera next to American businessman Michael Rubin and fellow rapper Quavo, former frontman of the hugely successful hip-hop outfit Migos.

This is not Travis Scott’s first brush of this kind with the law. In 2023, the rapper was accused of assaulting a staff member at a nightclub in New York. He is said to have reached a settlement with the club.

Earlier this year Scott was arrested in Miami in relation to an argument on a private yacht. He was charged with trespassing on property and disorderly intoxication. That incident was put down to “a misunderstanding” by his lawyers. However the entertainment news site TMZ says that he still faces a count of trespassing.

A 10-time Grammy Award nominee, Travis Scott is indisputably one of the biggest hip-hop acts in the world. He has had more than 100 songs that have made the Billboard Hot 100 and he has had four No.1s: ’Sicko Mode’, 'Highest In The Room’, The Scotts’ and ‘Franchise’.

He was previously in a relationship with the media personality and influencer, Kylie Jenner, with whom he has two children.
