"There are many incredible singers in the Irish music tradition but no words can describe the beautiful experience of hearing Seán sing and play," The Bonny Men say.
Fellow musicians, fans and friends of Seán Garvey continue to pay tribute – follow news that the acclaimed Irish singer and musician passed away on Friday, May 6. The Kerry native was previously named the TG4 Traditional Singer of the Year in 2006.
Dublin's traditional Irish music pub and venue The Cobblestone have paid tribute to Garvey – saying he "will be greatly missed for his wisdom, wit and friendship."
"I came across Séan after his arrival in Dublin when I heard him singing in the Conradh na Gaeilge and remember his performances with the Pavees in Slattery’s of Capel Street," their statement on social media continues. "He joined the Cobblestone on a Tuesday and Thursday nights and enthralled everybody with his magnificent voice and charm. We were so lucky that he traveled with us last October to the Polhora Bagpipe festival in Slovakia and delighted all with his singing, particularly his version of ‘The Bogs of Shanaheever’. He participated in the independence celebrations in Tallinn, Estonia in 2018, which we were delighted to witness. Our recollections of Séan Garvey are happy and powerful and he will live on in our memories forever. Like others, we will miss this giant of a singer and delight in the fact that he was our friend."
The Bonny Men have also taken to social media to describe the Kerry singer as "the most encouraging and inspiring person a musician could meet. There are many incredible singers in the Irish music tradition but no words can describe the beautiful experience of hearing Seán sing and play."
Emma Langford remembers him as "a gentle soul, a marvellous musician, a lovely man."

🎶I’ll take my rest in those green fields, the place where life began,
With those Boys of Barr na Sráide who hunted for the wren.
