Egan famously co-wrote 'Stuck In The Middle With You', alongside his bandmate Gerry Rafferty
Tributes are pouring in from across the music industry and beyond for Joe Egan – a founding member of the Scottish band Stealers Wheel, alongside the late Gerry Rafferty – who has died, aged 77.
Formed in Joe and Gerry's hometown of Paisley, Scotland, Stealers Wheel are widely remembered for their 1973 single 'Stuck In The Middle With You', which the pair co-wrote. It famously featured in the 1992 film Reservoir Dogs, and has been covered by a wide variety of artists.
Joe went on to release his debut solo album, Out of Nowhere, in 1979, followed by Map in 1981.
According to the Stealers Wheel website, Joe left the music industry after the release of his second album. However, he has songwriting and backing vocals credits on several of his Gerry Rafferty's solo albums.
Gerry's daughter Martha – who runs the official Gerry Rafferty Facebook page – paid tribute to Joe yesterday, noting that he "passed away peacefully" on July 6, "with his nearest and dearest around him."
"I will always remember him as a sweet and gentle soul," she added. "May he rest in peace."

Dublin singer-songwriter Thomas Walsh has also shared a tribute online – noting that Joe's "talent was immense and it shone beautifully, alas, all too briefly."
"His songs under the 'Stealers Wheel' moniker meant as much to me as Gerry's," he continued. "They still do."
