Caitlin Moran, John Cleese & Jennifer Saunders are among those hailing her genius
Friends and admirers have been paying tribute to Victoria Wood who has died from cancer at the age of 62.
“Oh, Victoria Wood,” rues Caitlin Moran. “You were SO my hero. I can quote whole scripts by heart.”
Adds John Cleese: “Shocked by news of Victoria Wood. I worked with her last year and was reminded of just what a superlative performer she was.”
Those sentiments are echoed by Jennifer Saunders: “Can’t believe Vic has gone. She was truly an inspiration and had so much left to give and we won't see it. She was so funny”, Miranda Hart: “Another hero and comedy legend gone. I am shocked. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Victoria for your laughs and inspiration”, Rory Bremner: “No. NO. This is too much. Now lovely, warm, funny, brilliantly talented Victoria Wood has gone. Words, songs, plays, she wrote the lot. So sad”, and David Walliams: “Have such happy memories of watching Victoria Wood’s TV shows with my mum, dad and sister. She was a humble genius.”
The final words - for the time being - go to Mark Steel who very rightly opines: "A brilliant funny warm woman she was, that Victoria Wood. I'm not sure she set out to change anything but changed far more than most who do."
