The two former reality TV stars held a "great meeting" in the Oval Office last night, according to Trump, to discuss prison reform and the pardon of a convicted drug criminal.
Lawyer Brittany Barnett said that Kim wanted the face-to-face meeting to ask the US president to pardon his client, 63-year-old Alice Johnson.
The great-grandmother is serving a life sentence for drug-related crime and is not eligible for parole. She has spent more than 20 years so far behind bars after she was convicted in 1996 on eight counts related to a Memphis-based cocaine trafficking operation.
"We are optimistic about Ms. Johnson’s future and hopeful that she —and so many like her—will get a second chance at life," Kim said last night.
"I would like to thank President Trump for his time this afternoon. It is our hope that the President will grant clemency to Ms. Alice Marie Johnson who is serving a life sentence for a first-time, non-violent drug offense."
Last night, Trump took to Twitter and stated: "Great meeting with Kim Kardashian today, talked about prison reform and sentencing."
Speaking about his client yesterday, Barnet told the Daily Mail last night: "Today's her birthday, so no greater gift than freedom on her birthday."
This isn't the first time a celebrity has asked Donald Trump to pardon somebody. Just last week Donald Trump posthumously pardoned the legendary boxer Jack Johnson, who was convicted of violating the Mann Act in 1913, at the request of Sylvester Stallone who famously played a boxer himself in the Rocky movies.
