Earlier this year, Sinéad's estate asked the former US president to stop playing her music at rallies
Donald Trump's town hall event in Pennsylvania took what's being widely reported as a 'bizarre' turn yesterday – with the former US president cutting the Q&A short, and playing music for over half an hour, including a video of Sinéad O'Connor performing 'Nothing Compares 2 U'. Trump remained onstage for the duration, nodding along and swaying to the music.
The impromptu listening party began after two attendees at the Q&A event required medical attention.
“Let’s not do any more questions," Trump announced from the stage. "Let’s just listen to music."
The Democratic presidential nominee Kamala Harris reposted footage from the event on her X account, with the caption: "Hope he's okay." Yesterday, Harris described her Republican rival as "unstable" and "unhinged".
Fox News Channel correspondent Bryan Llenas was live-tweeting the event:

"We’re still here and so is most of the crowd," he posted at one point. "A question has not been asked in more than a half hour. Now Trump is notably playing a music video of Sinead O’Connor’s 'Nothing Compares to you.' O’Connor’s estate asked Trump to stop playing her music at his rallies. She once called Trump a 'biblical devil'."

The 'biblical devil' quote was taken from Sinéad's final interview with Hot Press in 2020: "I actually do believe Donald Trump is the biblical Devil, the fucker," she remarked.
“I know this may sound extreme – I don’t really give a flying fuck what everyone else thinks – but I am convinced the man is actually a Satanist,” she said elsewhere in the interview. “I’m convinced of it. Klansmen were Satanists, it’s a satanic organisation. Whatever form it may exist in now, I don’t know and I don’t want to know, but its origins were satanic. All its rituals, everything about it. These people do exist. They’re butchers, bakers, candlestick makers. So why not the President of the United States of America?
"Did you ever read The Master And Margarita?" she added. "The Devil basically appears in Moscow because people start declaring there’s no God. He shows up and causes havoc all over Russia. But Trump is the Devil character in The Master And Margarita.”
Sinéad's estate and record label Chrysalis Records previously condemned Trump's use of her music at his rallies: “As the guardians of her legacy, we demand that Donald Trump and his associates desist from using her music immediately."

"Throughout her life, it is well known that Sinéad O'Connor lived by a fierce moral code defined by honesty, kindness, fairness, and decency towards her fellow human beings," their joint statement, released back in March, read. "It was with outrage therefore that we learned that Donald Trump has been using her iconic performance of 'Nothing Compares 2 U' at his political rallies.
"It is no exaggeration to say that Sinéad would have been disgusted, hurt, and insulted to have her work misrepresented in this way by someone who she herself referred to as a 'biblical devil'."
As part of yesterday's town hall, Trump also played Rufus Wainwright's rendition of 'Hallelujah', Oliver Anthony's 'Rich Men North of Richmond', Guns N' Roses' 'November Rain', and 'Memory' from the musical Cats, among other songs.
