Two Lights Not Broken
DIY doesn't come much better than this
Evil Uncle is Galway singer-songwriter Steve O’Sullivan, who dabbles in the murkier side of electro-Indie and does so with a hugely committed DIY attitude. The jolly McCartneyesque opener ‘Something For Nothing’ leads into a cornucopia of top-grade musical eccentricity, including a song about a spider called Timmy. ‘Maybe We’re OK’ starts like U2’s ‘The Sweetest Thing’ before shifting into a more Ray Davies-esque piece. ‘Gardening’ contains hints of Elbow and Wilco, while ‘Junkies’ and ‘Back Down Again’ burrow lyrically into the underbelly of modern life and ‘Sunny Day In Space’ is exuberantly sublime. O’Sullivan’s eagerness to play outside the box is most welcome. Everybody needs an Uncle like this.
