The cancellation comes on the heels of online protests – including a “Free A$AP Rocky” petition with over 65,000 signatures – against the arrest of American rapper A$AP Rocky, real name Rakim Mayers, who was arrested on 3 July in Stockholm on assault charges. A$AP Rocky was set to be the opening night headliner for Dublin’s Longitude festival but was unable to appear because of the charges.
Tyga made the announcement to cancel his show at Port du Soleil in Gothenburg in a tweet yesterday, writing: “I have decided to cancel my show in Sweden this Sunday July 14. I will not be performing. #FREEASAPROCKY”

Reactions from fans were mixed following the announcement. Some pointed out that cancelling the show was not the right way to express solidarity since it came at the cost of fans.
Twitter user @pupminter wrote, “ok but like. Ur fans can’t really do anything about it, they got nothing to do with it, why they gotta suffer?”

“How exactly does this help the situation that Flacko [A$AP Rocky] got into?” added user @Jon4than_aircraG. “Instead of doing nothing about it and being a rude artist come here and have your show, raise awareness in sweden around this topic as you have that power called fame and publicity! Same goes for @tylerthecreator SMH”

Regardless, some fans remained steadfast and saw his act of solidarity as the right decision.
