The video features watercolour illustrations from Brazilian artist Maria Eugenia.
Irish singer-songwriter Ultan Conlon has released a lyric video for his song, ‘World From A Window.’
The track comes from Conlon’s 2020 studio album, There’s a Waltz, which Hot Press praised as “songs of substance told with intelligence and wry observation.”
Like the album, Conlon’s new video is simple but substantial. The lyrics to ‘World From A Window’ appear on screen over a series of watercolour illustrations by Brazilian artist Maria Eugenia.
Within her illustrations, a man wanders around a living room, looking out the window, meditating, praying, and drinking wine before passing out on the floor. In their faded, autumnal colors, her drawings capture the strange, sad beauty of life in quarantine.
Yet surprisingly, Conlon did not write ‘World From A Window’ with lockdown in mind. He told Americana Highways that the song “started out about my house cat looking out the window and the guilt I felt about her limited existence."

“Then I noticed I spend as long viewing the world through the window of my smartphone from my couch, [and] watching birds and cars go by began to look like a much healthier alternative,” he said.
But with lyrics such as “here from the safety of my home / and the guise of a maniac in full fall,” Conlon’s track cannot avoid speaking to our present moment.
The singer-songwriter has acknowledged this timeliness. “‘World From A Window’ could easily have been written about the lockdown due to the Covid-19 Pandemic,” said his team in a press release.
There’s a Waltz is Conlon’s fourth album in the last ten years. According to his website, the Galway native began creating songs after the death of his father, moved to “write as a form of comfort."
Since then, Conlon has performed with Jackson Browne, John Fogerty, John Grant, Richard Hawley and many others. His music has been played extensively on the radio throughout Ireland and Great Britain, and both BBC Radio Ulster and Lyric FM named There’s a Waltz a recommended album of the week.
