An album by Ella Fitzgerald is set to release this February, nearly 60 years since its recording.
A previously lost Ella Fitzgerald album, The Moment of Truth: Ella At The Coliseum, is set to release on February 28. The recording is taken from a live performance with the Duke Ellington Orchestra at the Oakland Coliseum in California in June of 1967.
Known as the First Lady of Song, Fitzgerald recorded over 200 hundred albums before she passed in 1996, aged 79. A legendary jazz singer, she worked alongside Louis Armstrong on several projects and won thirteen Grammy awards during her seven-decade career. She also performed many times on television, including appearances on The Bing Crosby Show, The Frank Sinatra Show, and others.
The original tapes of The Moment of Truth: Ella At The Coliseum were found in the private collection of Norman Ganz- Fitzgerald’s manager and founder of Verve Records. The album features several songs which have not yet been heard on record. The titular song, ‘The Moment of Truth’ has been released as a single ahead of the LP's full release. An animated music video directed by Sharon Liu was made for the song, which you can watch below.
