With 'In Rainbows' scheduled for a January release and a 2008 tour in the offing Radiohead have talked to Hot Press.
Having caused record company executives worldwide to collectively soil their underwear with their innovative ‘honesty box’ approach to the release of their seventh album In Rainbows, Radiohead have talked about their plans to release the acclaimed album on conventional CD in January.
Speaking exclusively to Hot Press’s Olaf Tyaransen in London earlier this week, drummer Phil
Selway said the band were “extremely pleased” with the success of their download-only idea: “Well, we went into it not knowing what to expect at all. We hadn’t even decided on the approach to it – or at least finalised the approach to it – until a week beforehand. So we sat there a couple of days beforehand, wondering if anybody was going to be interested. We also stood to lose quite a lot of money if nobody paid for it, because we have to pay per download as well. So you know, it felt quite risky going into it.
“But I think it’s been a success in as much as it’s excited us about the process of releasing a record. It’s taken us out of the conventional process of delivering the record three months ahead of time, doing all your pre-press and everything, and worrying about whether it’s going to be leaked over the next three months, and then it coming out. So that’s been great.

“But also, we’ve come into the conventional stage of it now, with a proper CD coming out in January. So the knock-on effect of it all is that it makes that bit of it much more exciting as well.”
You can read the full interview in the Hot Press Annual, which will hit newsstands on December 14.
In further news, the band have also announced full details of their forthcoming new single, 'Jigsaw Falling Into Place'. It'll be released on January 14, and will be available on CD and seven-inch vinyl and download formats. The single will come backed up by two live tracks: 'Down Is The New Up' and 'Last Flowers', recorded by Thom Yorke live on the 'From The Basement' TV show. The seven-inch release will come backed with 'Videotape', from the same session.
