Electronic pop will never die, whether it’s Visage or Vitalic, Giorgio Moroder or Fischerspooner. Neosupervital is grade A electro pop, full of moody nuances and undepinned by excellent arrangements and fresh ideas. While the current electroclash bandwagon is more about posing than good tunes, Neosupervital are refreshingly reflective and emotive while still possessing a killer pop punch.
This one-man band is the brainchild of emergent alt-pop genius Tim O’Donovan, formerly of the excellent 46 Long and currently drummer for Settler. Neosupervital allows O’Donovan to indulge his ear for melody and great hooks. It’s never po-faced and always full of good humour, especially on the hialrious ‘Jazzfascist’; “He’s a jazz fascist and he’s never going to listen to you...”

Use What You Got is an extremely solid if brief starting point. Tim has a great voice which he utilises well with his box of tricks. Its a little too short even for a mini-album, but that can be construed as a good thing if less is, as it claims to be, more. Given more time to develop its already impressive studio savvy, I’d say the Neosupervital pop machine will get sharper and deadlier with age and experience. For the moment, cane the fab and hypnotic ‘Rachel’ until the debut album proper comes around. I guarantee that you’ll be happily singing along.
