Indie band Vampire Weekend and one-third of pop-rock trio Haim teamed up for a cover of one of Ireland's most legendary rock songs.
Performed at the Fuji Rock Festival in Yuzawa, Japan on Sunday evening (July 29), the cover showed the continued reach of Ireland's foremost rock band.
Originally recorded for their 1976 album, Jailbreak, 'The Boys Are Back In Town' was originally consigned to the cutting room floor by the band, until their manager persuaded them to keep it on the LP. It soon rocketed to success, reaching No. 1 on the Irish Charts, No. 8 on the UK Charts, and No. 12 on the US Billboard Charts, establishing Thin Lizzy as a force to be reckoned with in rock music at a time when rockstars weren't a common entity in Ireland (and just before a certain Irish music magazine was established *ahem*). Four decades later, it's still considered one of the greatest rock songs ever written.
Vampire Weekend are currently touring, as well as working on the long-awaited follow-up to their 2013 album Modern Vampires of the City. Haim have also been on tour throughout the summer, buoyed by the success of their 2017 release Something To Tell You.
