News and gossip from the domestic front with Roisin Dwyer.
Nick Seymour has sprinkled magic dust on many a home-grown opus over the last few years. The latest brood to benefit from the Australian’s recording expertise are Limerick act Vesta Varro. The band have just released their double A-side single 'Blue Mirror Boy/Supa Hero' and will mark the occasion on February 10 with a launch in Tower Records at 1pm and a headline gig that night in Crawdaddy.
The offering is a taster for the highly-anticipated debut album, which is set to be released on the IN Record imprint later this year.
In other news from the south, Cork faves Rest are currently at the mastering stage with their next EP. Watch out for a Spring release date to be announced soon. Waiting Room, meanwhile, are in the final stages of mixing their next masterpiece. We will keep you posted. And finally, not to be outdone in the creative output stakes, Windings, fresh from two support slots to the legendary Bob Mould, will be uploading two new songs to his site at www.windings.com in the next few weeks.
Another release to watch out for is the debut single from MoCrac, ‘Happy’, which features guest vocals from the lovely Cathy Davey.
The record precedes the release of the long-player Cash Is King on March 17. The title may sound familiar as it was originally available on a very limited underground basis in 2005 but now gets it label debut on Reekus Records.
‘Happy’ was recently chosen for the Maeve Binchy film Tara Road starring Andie McDowell…..
On the subject of soundtracks, Mark Geary’s song ‘It Beats Me’ was chosen for use in the CBS TV show The Ghost Whisperer and a track from current album Ghosts is to be used in the Fox show Bones which airs every Thursday on Sky One.
More single news now from Humanzi and The Marshals….Following on from the success of ‘Fix The Cracks‘ Humanzi release a new single, ‘Long Time Coming‘ on February 10. Watch out for the debut album in the spring.
On the same day The Marshals release their debut ‘Make Her Cry’ there will be a slew of tour dates to promote the offering. After the domestic gigs the band travel to the UK for more live action.
Continuing with the Dublin theme…Recent Single of the Fortnight winners The Rags ended ‘05 on a high with 'Monsters & I’ enjoying fresh exposure due to its inclusion in the Campbell’s Soup radio and TV campaign. 2006 sees the band ensconced in Grouse Lodge studios Westmeath recording new material in the formidable company of Marc Carolan. The band hope to have the material available for your listening pleasure before festival season kicks off. Catch them live on February 11 in The Village when they support The Rakes.
