The Former punk frontman teams up with ex-MMA fighter and actor Daniel Abrol to highlight issues around depression and mental health.
Colm Warren has dropped a new music video for his recent song 'Choked' that Hot Press is proud to premiere.
After dropping the singles, 'Just Me' and 'Shame, the new video finds the Derry artist taking on the heavy subject of depression that stars actor and former MMA fighter Daniel Abrol.
"Everything about 'Choked' has been a struggle," Warren said.
"I wrote the song several years ago but couldn’t actually sing it for anyone. It took me a long time to shed enough baggage even to get to a place where I could feel comfortable revealing any songs at all, never mind something as personally exposing as “Choked” – which probably explains why I started with all the angry, frustrated, punky stuff where I could still hide behind a mask of aggression and a screaming loud rock band.
Having got to a place where I felt I could record 'Choked' properly, I wanted a very particular type of visual to sit alongside the music as a critical element of the holistic piece of art I was trying to produce."
Directed by Matty Killen, Warren said that he feels the video highlights this critical topic strongly.

"This piece is the result of a mountain of work from not just myself and Dan but also from the truly incredible local filmmaker Matty Killen, ably assisted as ever by the brilliant Anna Gillespie," he explained.
"I can’t thank them all enough for producing something that I think we can be very proud of. The song deals with heavy themes and the video reflects that – but that’s because these issues are not trivial.
We have significant problems in this society that aren’t being appropriately dealt with. Even a cursory look at suicide rates locally would tell you that – but there are still people out there who want to ignore the issues and pretend they’re not going on all around them."
