'It's time we celebrate this division.'
Today, Dublin's HAVVK has released the video for their ethereal post-punk track '52,' which is lifted from their forthcoming debut entitled Cause and Effect. The album is slated for release on Friday, November 22nd. Following the record's release, the band will gig at Dublin's Bello Bar on Friday, December 6th with support from New Pagans and Runah.
The video for '52' is an overtly political piece. A montage of footage showing Donald Trump, Barack Obama, and protests erupting in violence gets that message across clearly. A meditation on the deep division between the varying ideologies of the day, HAVVK proves once again they have a message to get out. In the song's soaring chorus, the line, 'It's time we celebrate this division,' is sung over footage of protesters throwing what appears to be Molotov, creating a chilling effect.
Confirming the track's message, the band commented, 'The song was one of the first we finished on the album and a response to the political climate in the UK following the Brexit vote in 2016. We were in London at the time and it felt that the political climate had hit rock bottom, following a toxic campaign that had played in division and uncertainty. Fast forward three years and so many places seem to have similar stories and situations developing.'
