A month after dropping their new single 'Old Bones,' Sky Atlas returns to the moody track with a new music video.
Previously premiering 'Old Bones' on Hot Press's website, Sky Atlas returns with the smashing single's new music video.
Originally released back in May, the untamed track embodies the band's iconic sound: a mix of folk, jazz, rock, shoegaze, and other alternative genres. An energised collection of instrumentation built out of a thumping drum and bass beat, 'Old Bones' is overlaid with the sultry vocals of Sky Atlas' frontman Lughaidh. Ultimately, through sound and lyrics alike, it's a piece that delves into the themes of loss and euphoria while reinvigorating wearied spirits.
Now, a month later Sky Atlas' new video, co-directed by Willow Kennedy and Iarla McKeon, compounds upon the moody banger's rocking melody. With the whirlwind of a spinning camera, empty stairs, and a longing gaze, the video introduces a melancholic, searching feel as its subject runs through Dublin's streets.

The disorientation and unsteadiness of the camera help portray what Lughaidh describes as a "sort of helplessness felt by the protagonist."
"He is isolated and alone in a city that feels relentless, with a sort of ‘eat or be eaten’ attitude," Lughaidh notes. "He breaks out in a moment of triumph and freedom. Though the ceiling isn’t very high… he rather pointlessly steals a television as a way of lashing out only to reach home and realise the reality of his actions and the consequences tomorrow will bring."
Representative of the song's larger connotations, Lughaidh remarks that "the overarching feeling in this video is very much the sense of being walled in."
"Being stuck in an unhappy situation but unable to change as it’s simply necessary to survive in the city. It’s a prevalent issue in Dublin and a pressure felt by all, especially young people trying to make a living, where the thought of saving money or even leaving your parents house seems a sort of dream.”
The video for 'Old Bones' comes five years after the Dublin-based band struck out onto the music scene with the single 'News Today.' Since, Sky Atlas has been tirelessly building a reputation as a band unbound by genre and expectation through tracks like the haunting 'Hollow Embrace' and work like their debut EP Stone.
Now, on the heels of their first national tour across Ireland and with their debut album's release on the horizon, Sky Atlas is even establishing themselves as an ambitious act, setting their sights on the music scene abroad, with plans to embark on a UK and Germany tour soon.
