„After Recording our debut single ourselves in our bass player's studio shed, it felt rewarding and fulfilling to follow a DIY path laid out by the bands we all love,“ the band says.
Following the release of their debut single 'Chaos' back on 18th November 2022, punk band Slightly Dishevelled will release their debut music video on 28th February. „With surrealist art and absurd film, we used this to influence our vision for the video,“ the band explains.
The Irish band consists out of 5 members with different „egos and cultural differences“. Slightly Dishevelled are Fiachra Carey on Vocals, Tommy Moloney & Fionn Fealey on the Guitars as well as Domhnail Corrigan on the Bass and Kian Johnston on the Drums.
The band says: „we [] pride ourselves on our live performance, moving towards refining our sound on record with the intention of creating provocative and abstract art.“

'Chaos' was recorded in a shed-studio in Dublin and tells the story of guards being called on a house party, forcing the narrator to flee the scene. „The romanticization of anti-authoritarianism and petty rebellion in the song brings feelings of nostalgia and youth, told in a gritty and disorderly way,“ the band says.
„One minute you're playing cards, Next thing they're calling the guards, All you know, Is that you've just got to go,“ Fiachra shouts in the song, continuing later „It‘s chaos, The chaos starts to show, Chaos, It's chaos“. The song's blaring guitars and a rhythm that makes you want to move are reminiscent of the '80s punk scene.
With improvised noise sections the band wants the song to emulate the movement of being on the run. „The punk-inspired delivery layered with atmospheric noise brings the story to life, which mirrors the band's DIY ethics and morals," the band added.
To realise their ideas, the band worked together with director Iarla McKeon and assistant director Cameron Manson. „Through our mutual obsession with surrealist art and absurd film, we used this to influence our vision for the video. We wanted it to have the feeling of an old-school horror movie, but simultaneously reflect the abstract narrative in the lyrics,“ the band says.
In the three-minute video Fiachra wakes up in a room with masked figures playing cards. The frontman walks confused and disoriented through a seemingly endless, very old-looking building, attempting to escape.

The video has been recorded in songwriter Carey‘s family shed in Nenagh, Co Tipperary. Slightly Dishevelled further said „The confusing scenes, non-linear storytelling, and absurd characters ruminate the themes attempting to be expressed. The concept we storyboarded together was to have the opening and closing scene mirror each other and shows the loop the character is caught in.“
