VIRGIN ON THE RIDICULOUS
THE CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS & Civil Rights League have slammed the Go-Go’s for dressing up as the Virgin Mary on their website.
THE CATHOLIC RELIGIOUS & Civil Rights League have slammed the Go-Go’s for dressing up as the Virgin Mary on their website.
Talking this week, League President William Donohue described the photo as “a cheap ploy” and accused them of “ripping off Catholic imagery in the hope that it’ll lure a new audience.”
Donohue is also none too happy with the “prayer” that’s being used to promote the Californians’ comeback album, God Bless The Go-Go’s: “Hail Go-Go’s, full of beat, the rock is with thee. Blessed art though among women, and blessed is the fruit of thine talent, music. Holy Go-Go’s, mothers of chick rock, pray for us sinners. Now, and at the hour of thy concerts. Amen.”
The band remain unrepentant, with a spokesman saying that, “They are all religious girls. They believe that God is giving them a second chance. They feel that they’ve been blessed.”
