Before their set at the 2fm Xmas ball, Walking on Cars sat down to chat with us about what we can expect from their upcoming album, Colours.
Already proving a hit - with over 70 thousand views on Youtube since its release earlier this month - Walking on Cars’ latest single “Monster” sees the group delve into a darker, edgier sound.
Now the band have revealed fans can expect more of this in their upcoming album.
“We’ve taken a different approach this time around,” says Sorcha Durham. “Obviously we’ve all grown as musicians, and as people. We’ve evolved and so has our sound, so this is definitely a good taster of what’s going to be on the new album”.
The writing process was different this time around too.
“We used to have different farmhouses in the middle of nowhere, near where we live,” explains Paul Flannery. “But this time we have a big room in an old schoolhouse with a nice little studio setup there. We did a lot of our writing there in shifts, where we’d work six or seven hours a day, everyday”.

With big plans for the coming year including taking the stage of the 3Arena again for their headline show on May 23rd along with two more headline shows in Belfast (May 21st, 2019) and Cork (June 21, 2019), Christmas is going to be a time of much-needed rest for the group.
“We have a show in Killarney which we do every Christmas,” Sorcha says. “But other than that we’re all at home, taking some time off with family”.
The band also plans to take part in the annual Wren’s day celebrations in their hometown of Dingle. “The day after Christmas everybody goes out, with marching bands, whistles, drums, all dressed up in different outfits - and each band is affiliated with a different charity. It’s great craic!”.
Of course, the 2fm Xmas ball proved another massive success for a great cause. Raising half a million euro for the ISPCC, which will receive over 10,000 contacts from children in need this Christmas alone, the ball continues in a tradition of charity concerts that have come to mark the festive period in Ireland.
“I remember from my childhood always seeing the Childline concert and always wanting to go, but couldn’t because we lived in Dingle,” recalls Sorcha. “So it’s amazing to have grown up with something and now to be involved in it”.
Colours is available to pre-order now and will be released on April 12th 2019
