The new song was penned in memory of the three-year-old Syrian refugee, Alan Kurdi.
Wallis Bird releases her powerful new single 'The River Flows' alongside a mystical music video with an album in the offing.
Her new album, Woman, is out later this year on September 27.
‘As The River Flows’ is an emotionally charged ballad devoted to Alan Kurdi, the three-year-old Syrian refugee whose drowned body was photographed in 2015 on a Turkish beach.
“It’s dedicated to the incredible souls who faced death crossing the Mediterranean Sea and to the poor little boy, Alan Kurdi who’s drowning broke my heart. This is ultimately a song for hope.” she said.
The song challenges the discourse surrounding the "right kind of immigrant", addressing people's animosity towards refugees explicitly in the lyric, “Aren’t you brave enough/ To pave a basic decency for humankind?”

The music video is set during dusk with Bird dancing in a wood in a red hood as well storming by the ocean shore, it's a poignant video that captures the spirit of the song.
Bird's upcoming album, Woman, explores the singer/songwriter's roots and passions for soul music. Despite containing eleven songs, it's only 37 minutes short, pointed and powerful, packed with penetrating truths and flashes of levity. The album insists our lives are intertwined with inescapable consequences.
Co-produced by Marcus Wüst, it is solely written by Bird in moments of passion, appealing for empathy and humanity in a divisive political climate
“Like most artists, I’ve probably shirked my responsibilities at times so as not to rock any boats,” Bird confesses. “But I decided it was time to change that.”
She is now pursing to use her platform as an artist to animate and agitate for social and political change.
Releasing her debut album in 2007, she has performed over 800 shows this past decade. Her talent as a singer songwriter is recognised with two Meteor Music Awards under her belt and two previous nominations for the Choice Music Prize.
