Iron Maiden, A Tribe Called Quest, Rage Against The Machine and more are also in the running for a spot in this year's Rock & Roll Hall of Fame induction
The nominees for the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame 2023 have been announced – with Warren Zevon, The White Stripes, Willie Nelson, Cyndi Lauper, George Michael, Joy Division/New Order, Missy Elliott, and Sheryl Crow all receiving nominations for the first time.
Other nominees – who were in the running for a spot in the prestigious Hall of Fame in previous years – include A Tribe Called Quest, Iron Maiden, Kate Bush, Rage Against The Machine, Soundgarden, and The Spinners.
"This remarkable list of Nominees reflects the diverse artists and music that the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame honors and celebrates," John Sykes, Chairman of the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame Foundation, remarked in a statement. "These artists have created their own sounds that have impacted generations and influenced countless others that have followed in their footsteps."
To be eligible for nomination, an act must have released its first commercial recording at least 25 years before the year of nomination. This is the first year of eligibility for Missy Elliott and The White Stripes.
Nominee ballots will be sent to an international voting body of more than 1,000 artists, historians, and members of the music industry. Fans around the world can also participate in the induction selection process through the Fan Vote. Up until April 28, fans can vote online every day at vote.rockhall.com. The top five artists selected by the public will be featured on a fans’ ballot, which will be tallied along with the other ballots to determine the 2023 Inductees.
