‘APES**T’ is the first single to be released from the new album by power-couple, Beyoncé Knowles and Jay-Z. The album is entitled EVERYTHING IS LOVE, and is available to stream now.
The couple have released the new 8-track album under the name The Carters. In the album, the pair address race, wealth, fame and cheating scandals to name a few.
‘APES**T’ was directed by Ricky Saiz, who also directed the ‘Yoncé’ video from Beyoncé's 2013 album.
The video for ‘APES**T’ was filmed in the Louvre and sees the iconic couple lounging around in front of some of the world’s most famous artwork. The pair challenge western ideas of art and beauty by juxtaposing famous pieces featuring white models with their black counterparts. One of the most jarring moments in the video comes when two black dancers in head-wraps pose as obsequious servants at the feet of the portrait of Madame Recamier, showing what is absent from the painting.

The couple also use the video to highlight the few non-white images in the Louvre, such as Portrait D’Une Négresse by Marie-Guillemine Benoist, which is the last painting to be focused on before the final glimpse of the Mona Lisa.
