Dublin concert is scheduled for November 9th. Tickets are on sale from Tuesday, May 4th at 10AM.
As the date is coming closer to the arrival of their long-awaited Cavalcade LP, English rock group Black Midi have announced an Irish gig date.
Initially released as a single, ‘Slow’ has received a creative visual interpretation by director and animator Gustaf Holtenäs. The video is a strange mix of an original retro-wave cartoon, art-house graphics and gore footage. And yet, it creates a curious phantasmagoric world presumably inspired by the infamous '80s animation Akira.
Alike Icarus, the protagonist is trying to escape from their imperfect world but faces disappointment. Black Midi commented on the lyrics:
"They tell the story of a young and idealistic revolutionary dreaming of a better world who ends up being shot in the national stadium after a coup d’état."
Earlier this month, the band also recorded an exclusive KEXP session at Soup Studio in London playing songs from Cavalcade with fellow musicians. They talked to Larry Mizell, Jr. about the album and the future direction of their music.
Since forming in 2017, Black Midi have made a name for themselves through their eccentricity and experimental improvisation, which made them stand out in the post-punk, jazz prog and noise scenes. This time, however, they are trying something completely alien to them which is structured songwriting.

From what we heard so far, Black Midi still manage to incorporate their uniqueness in this new approach, so there is nothing to worry about. Perhaps it will only get crazier.
Cavalcade is out May 28. Pre-order here.
