The pop star also said that ‘Good Ones’ is the first page in a "new chapter".
Charli XCX has shared her new single, ‘Good Ones,’ along with its “twisted” and “electrifying” music video.
This is the London songwriter’s first release since her 2020 album how i’m feeling now. The pop trailblazer said that this is a “new chapter” for her as she “embraces all that my life has to offer in today’s world – fame, glamour, inner demons and global hits.”
“Today, I, the inimitable Charli XCX, am releasing a brand new single ‘Good Ones’, accompanied by a twisted, dramatic and quite frankly electrifying music video,” she said.
The new track was produced by Oscar Holter from Max Martin’s Wolf Cousins entity. The British artist said ‘Good Ones’ explores her “inability to keep hold of healthy relationships, instead being endlessly drawn back to the dysfunctional and toxic”.
The video was filmed in Mexico and co-directed by Hannah Lux Davies with Charli XCX writing the story. The 29-year old called the visuals “demonic” and said:

“The ‘Good Ones’ video sees me dramatically mourning the untimely loss of my partner as I battle with the realisation that once again I’ve abandoned the goodness in my life, in favour of the sinister, with a visual aesthetic that marks a new era of me: Charli XCX.”
The singer, whose real name is Charlotte Aitchison, also teased the release date for her upcoming album – March 18, 2022 was etched on a gravestone in the video beside her birthday, August 2, 1992.
“As you already know, I am an iconic figure in the arts, and have helped expand the landscape of popular music over the last decade by seamlessly traversing the underground and the mainstream with my output,” Charli XCX said in a self-written press release for ‘Good Ones’.
“My innovative approach has opened up new possibilities within the pop sphere for both myself and others. You’re welcome.”
The singer recently told Refinery29 about her approach to her forthcoming album. “I’m just very into making ultimate pop music, and the whole album is very contrasting from how i’m feeling now,” she said.
“I’m exploring what it means to be a pop star on a major label in a not very current way. And that’s really fun to me.”
Charli XCX will commence her how i’m feeling now tour in London on October 24th. After playing the capital’s Lafayette venue she will play shows in Los Angeles and New York. When announcing the three “special” gigs last month she told fans “to be ready."
