The American singer-songwriter – formerly of Saucy Monky – cut her teeth singing in the clubs and pubs around New Jersey and NYC.
Cynthia Catania has had a long career in the music industry, decamping from New York to Los Angeles early on in her singing days. In those early days, she was "plunking out songs at open mics in Hollywood", and dropping off cassette tapes to record labels during the day.
When she met Dublin-born Annmarie Cullen, the two hit it off immensely, forming the band Saucy Monky. Every bit of their collective energy was spent writing together and working on new material, and things tracked on a quick upward trajectory after TodayFM DJ Tom Dunne played their debut EP.
They went on to chart in Ireland, but it was eventually revealed that the two were dating, and the band imploded with their breakup. Catania has since risen from the ashes of that group to have an equally successful solo career. Now, she's kicking off 2021 with the release of her latest single, 'Last Beer', and the accompanying video.
Dedicated to nonprofit TuffVets.org, which provides support for struggling combat veterans, the fun-loving video was shot with summer sun in mind and a colourful cast of characters. It's a step in a different direction from the brooding paganism of her last video, which Hot Press premiered, but it's still wonderfully creative and engaging. A great escape from the dreary reality of Covid!
