The single pays tribute to Curry’s family, his Florida upbringing and the backyard brawling scene
In his first release since 2018’s TA1300 album, Denzel Curry pays homage to his dad on new track ‘RICKY’. The track contains words of wisdom from Curry’s father: “My daddy said, ‘Trust no man but your brothers / And never leave your day ones in the gutter’ / My daddy said, ‘Treat young girls like your mother’”.
The accompanying visual for the track, directed by previous Denzel collaborator Twelve’len, portrays the violent art of backyard brawling, an act that’s extremely prominent in Florida. Throughout Curry’s childhood, his late brother Treon was heavily involved in his scene. In honour of this, Curry teamed up with well-known fighter Dada 5000 to film the video in his backyard.
