As part of our nightly YouTube series celebrating Van Morrison's 75th birthday, Duke Special performs 'Orangefield', and shares his reflections on Van's music.
Belfast-based songwriter and performer Duke Special has forged a reputation for his refusal to be boxed into any easy categorisation – embarking on a series of diverse musical adventures throughout his remarkable career. He released his latest album, Hallow, in 2017.

"Part of what makes him so special is the fact he is singing about places I know in a vernacular that I understand. Part of it is his incredible voice and the amazing musicians he surrounds himself with. Part of it is sensing that he is channelling something spiritual, something soulful, something he feels compelled to communicate. He is standing up to his neck in the river. I am currently getting my feet wet.
"I wanted to do something from Avalon Sunset, the album through which I first became aware of Van. ‘Orangefield’ is so close to where I live now, so I chose it for that reason, as well as the fact that I have loved the song since I first heard it 31 years ago."
