For his first Live Lounge performance in two years, Ed Sheeran made history with some of the most intense loop-pedal performances, and also by being the first to perform immediately after eating a full meal from Nando's in five minutes. "It literally just arrived, and then they said, 'you're on in five,' and no one thought I could do it. It was a challenge," Sheeran told radio host Clara Amfo.
It was a good start to the rest of the session, as Sheeran played most of the gig solo, and that was more than enough. He pulled out a loop pedal for his chart-topping "Shape of You," backing himself up with his own looped vocals, before moving on to "Castle on the Hill," and then bringing out some old favourites, including another loop pedal rendition of "Bloodstream."
For the classic Live Lounge cover, Sheeran opted for one of the new Little Mix songs, declaring himself to be a massive Little Mix fan. "That was the one concert I went to last year," he said. "I didn't really go to any gigs, but I was in Milan, and I'm a Little Mix fangirl." His cover to "Touch," featuring his SNL band, got high praise from everyone, including Little Mix themselves.
