'The Movement' is the newest project from electronic duo PrYmary Colours, comprising of a single and a mini-doucumentary to raise awareness of the black Irish community.
For the last year, electo-pop duo PrYmary Colours has been working on a project called 'The Movement'.
Released on October 7th, it consists of single 'The Movement" and a mini-documentary titled The Movement : Perspective Of A Black Irish Woman. The project’s mission is to cultivate change in Ireland for minorities and to highlight societal issues in an honest light to help Ireland evolve into a more conscious society.
'The Movement' song is an energetic pop song that fuses many genres. Daz, one half of PrYmary Colours (and Dónal Lunny's nephew), incorporates polka airs into this modern disco-feeling track, that blends traditional with modern, past with present, whilst reminding us all of the journey Ireland is on, both musically and philosophically. You can watch the video, filmed at the new closed Jam Park venue in Swords, below.
Written by PrYmary Colours other half Cayisha, a black Irish woman, 'The Movement' is her story of her journey and the difficulties she has faced as a black child and black woman growing up in Ireland.
"In a time of racial indifferences, awareness is bringing people closer together," she explains.
The messaging of the song deals with racial challenges occurring globally and more locally in Ireland, and leans on the idea that changes are happening in Ireland but that we need to hear the perspectives of our minority communities, to create a more balanced society.
