Hozier’s voice shines on classed-up live version of ‘Shrike’
Today, Vevo and Hozier have unveiled a gorgeous live version of ‘Shrike’, one of the standout tracks from his brand new album Wasteland Baby!
"A shrike is a bird that kills its prey by pecking at its neck and skull, but may also impale said prey on barbed wire and garden forks. You can draw your own conclusions, but musically this is Hozier at his most stately, a majestic slowie that begins with delicate guitar figures and evokes the era when English folk-rock was exploring its rich past a la Renbourn and Jansch again." Widely regarded as one of Ireland’s most unique talents, the Irish singer songwriter and multi-instrumentalist rose to global attention back in 2013 with the release of his moody and soulful single ‘Take Me To Church’, which handed him an international audience and catapulted him into a major-label contract and Grammy nomination to boot.
Born Andrew Hozier-Byrne in County Wicklow, Ireland, Hozier is the son of a local blues musician that cites James Joyce’s Portrait of an Artist as a Young Man, Leonard Cohen, John Lee Hooker and community choral singing among his biggest influences.
