Watch Alynda Segarra's Q&A video below – featuring shout-outs to Paul Brady, Lankum and more.
Today on the Hot Press YouTube channel, we're launching our brand new Rapid Fire Q&A series – kicking off proceedings with Bronx-born, New Orleans-based singer-songwriter Alynda Segarra of Hurray For The Riff Raff.
In the video, recorded from their home in New Orleans, Alynda shows off an impressive knowledge of Irish music...
"My favourite Irish artist is Paul Brady," they reveal. "I'm still trying to memorise all the lyrics of 'Arthur McBride'. I think that would be the ultimate party trick."
And Paul Brady's not the only Irish artist that Alynda – who plays Whelan's, Dublin on August 31 – currently has on rotation.
"Recently, I discovered this band Lankum, from Dublin," they resume. "The song 'The Young People' just made me ball like a baby."
Elsewhere, in the video, Alynda references Adrianne Lenker, Tina Turner, Bob Marley, John Coltrane, Nina Simone, Frank Ocean, M.I.A., and more.
