The live version was shot by Smith's brother, Kojaque, coloured by Oliver Kelly and mastered by TJ Lipple.
J Smith has shared a stirring live version of his debut single 'I'm Sorry'. The live video, recorded by Ben Rawlins in his old DIT Conservatory studio, gives viewers another, more intimate perspective on the song, which was written for Smith's friend after a harrowing breakup.
"So much of people’s experiences are universal, it’s only the particulars that differ," said Smith of the song in a Q+A with Hot Press last month.
"So when I went to write this song, I knew how my friend felt but not everything they were going through. This, at the very least, helped me understand a little deeper, and let them know I was alongside them. I remember hearing something very poignant, which is that there is nothing we can really say to help someone in moments like these, but simply to feel our hushed breath on their shoulder is the most we can give."
Smith helped Ben move some gear from his old studio, where he tracked a lot of his upcoming album, and so the pair bartered Smith's assistance for a recording session, and got together to record the release.
