The Cork singer-songwriter is back with a new single after his 2016 debut album Dreamcatcher and 2021 single 'Opera on The Top Floor.'
Jack O'Rourke has shared the new music video for his latest single, 'Patsy Cline.'
The Cork singer-songwriter has been captivating audiences since his 2016 debut album, Dreamcatcher. Earlier this year, he released his first single of 2021, 'Opera on The Top Floor,' which he recorded a live version of for Hot Press' Live Upstairs at Mike The Pies.
"'Patsy Cline' is about a wild love – all that's exciting and beautiful – the wild place where that exists, even in a memory," said O'Rourke of the new single. "Patsy was an extraordinary singer and she could have sung anything – jazz or RnB and her phrasing travels beyond country music. To me, she's the precursor to Janis Joplin or even Bjork or Phoebe Bridgers."
O'Rourke described Cline's voice as "evocative and honeyed," yet "raw," "primal," and "reckless." He added that Cline brings you on a journey with her musical delivery, which is "exciting but scary."
The vocals and piano for the single were recorded in one take at the Triskel. With the help of Marlene Enright's rhythm, Cormac McCarthy's string arrangement, Crash Ensemble's talent, Davie Ryan's beats, and Hugh Dillon's guitar, O'Rourke created a wonderfully layered piece.
