Kamasi Washington debuted his cover of Metallica’s ‘My Friend Of Misery’ along with Kirk Hammet, Robert Trujillo and Thundercat ahead of the band's forthcoming tribute compilation album, The Metallica Blacklist.
Washington performed his rendition live at the Hollywood Bowl in Los Angeles. The saxophone player is a contributor to the upcoming album celebrating the 30th anniversary of Metallica’s self titled album fondly dubbed, The Black Album. He is one of 53 musicians in a star-studded compilation album.
A host of singles from the album have been released, including Diet Cig’s version of ‘The Unforgiven', Biffy Clyro’s cover of ‘Holier Than Thou’ and Sam Fender and St. Vincent’s take on ‘Sad But True.’ The Metallica Blacklist will be released along with the reissue of The Black Album on September 10th.
The Black Album’s anniversary compilation was announced last month and was accompanied by Miley Cyrus’ rendition of ‘Nothing Else Matters’ which also featured Elton John, Chad Smith of The Red Hot Chili Peppers, WATT, Yo-Yo Ma and Trujillo.
Dermot Kennedy and Imelda May are also set to appear on the special edition of the album. Kennedy covers 'Nothing Else Matters' and May gives her take on 'The God That Failed.'
