As a member of supergroup Irish Women In Harmony and as a solo artist, Lyra had a busy 2020 despite the pandemic.
Cork singer-songwriter and burgeoning pop star Lyra has shared her live performance of 'New Day', which she sang on RTÉ One's New Year's Eve Countdown. She was accompanied by 12-year-old Sligo dancer Fionn McMorrow at Dublin Castle, as part of The Failte Ireland Midnight Moment.
The young singer has been described as “magical and otherworldly”, and her phenomenal voice made for a stunning performance. The single – a reimagined cover of the late 1960’s artist Jackie Lomax – was chosen for this moment, because reflects the hope that Ireland and the world will see a better and brighter 2021 after the multiple hardships and challenges that 2020 brought. Lyra released the track as a single in September of last year.
“I was so honoured to be that artist to ring in 2021, and I wasn’t expecting such an amazing reaction," said Lyra in a statement, adding: "It’s the perfect song.”
