American alt-rocker Mark Lanegan has announced that Somebody’s Knocking, his eleventh solo album, will be released on 19 October of this year. The record’s first single, ‘Stitch It Up,’ has just dropped alongside its music video, which guest stars Donal Logue as his iconic ‘90s MTV character Jimmy the Cab Driver.
Ahead of the album’s release, Lanegan will tour the US in May and Europe and the UK in the fall, with appearances at Dublin’s Button Factory on 17 December and Belfast’s Empire on 18 December.
After arriving on the music scene as a member of ‘80s grunge group the Screaming Trees, Lanegan began his solo career with his 1990 album The Winding Sheet. Somebody's Knocking marks a psychedelic exploration of the effects of music on the soul, featuring a more electronic feel than some of Lanegan’s past endeavors and a call back to Lanegan's longtime love for bands like Depeche Mode and New Order.
The music video for ‘Stitch It Up’ marks the first time Lanegan has appeared in one of his own music videos in fifteen years.
“Had a blast making this video,” said Lanegan of the shoot. “We had some friends over for dinner and Joe Cardamone met Donal Logue there and they hit it off. When I later talked to Joe about directing a vid he immediately said ‘Jimmy The Cab Driver’ I called Donal and he laughed for like ten minutes and was totally into it. My head was pounding from laughing so hard the day of the shoot. It was extremely tough to keep a straight face when Donal was in character, he turned into an updated version of Jimmy so fast. Both Joe and Donal are brilliant.”

Logue, who was born in Canada to Irish parents from County Kerry, played Jimmy the Cab Driver, a passionate music video viewer always ready for a rant, in MTV ads throughout the early 1990s. Recently, he's starred on Fox's Gotham as Harvey Bullock.
