Watch: Membranes release video for 'A Strange Perfume' ahead of new album
Blackpool post-punk band Membranes will release a new album, What Nature Gives…Nature Takes Away, on 8 June. The music video for ‘A Strange Perfume,’ the opening track of the record, is out now. The album marks the band’s first record since their 2015 album Dark Matter/Dark Energy.
Formed in 1977 after the seeds of punk rock culture began to flourish in Britain, Membranes made waves in the underground music scene prior to their break-up in 1990. Reunited twenty years later at the request of My Bloody Valentine, Membranes went on to record their most successful album yet, Dark Matter/Dark Energy, and perform at festivals across the globe.
Their as-yet-unreleased new album will consist of sixteen tracks exploring the duality of nature. The release will feature a twenty-piece choir backing up the band, as well as an array of guest artists like Chris Packham, Shirley Collins, Jordan and Kirk Brandon. With a sound varying from haunting opera to driving punk beats, this album explores the dynamics of what it is to be alive.
To celebrate their newest release, Membranes will tour the UK and play festivals around Mexico, the UK and Europe. A list of their UK tour dates can be found here.
