Recorded in 1985 in LA, the song features on the Originals album which has been recently released by The Prince Estate.
'Holly Rock' was first intended to be included in the 1985 movie 'Krush Grove.' Because it never appeared on any Prince or Prince-related album, it has been labelled the 'lost' song.
“While Prince gave Sheila E. sole writing and producer credit, he actually produced the track himself and co-wrote it with Sheila. Though not a hit at the time, the electrifying full six and a half-minute version has become a firm fan favourite due to the scarcity of copies of the soundtrack,” explains a press release.
The video accompanying the single features colourful animated characters, including a representation of Prince himself in cartoon form. Comic-strip inspired, the video is a vivid journey through various eras and looks Prince went through.

Released digitally on June 7 and physically on June 21 - both in partnership with Warner Bros - Originals is a compilation of songs which were originally created by Prince but given to other artists. 'More gems for the Prince archives," says a review of the album in Hot Press.
A deluxe vinyl box set of the posthumous album was also released today including a CD, two 2LP vinyls and a 24 page booklet.
This comes after it was revealed that The Prince Estate won a staggering $7million in reparations against a music label found to be "bootlegging" the late star's music.
