Following the release of their charity single 'Christmas Without You' in December, Mute The TV have returned with a powerful new track, 'Did You Ever Think It Would Be Like This?' – inspired by anxiety and depression experienced over lockdown.
"I wrote this song during the first lockdown, so, it's sort of fitting that it's being released in another lockdown almost a year later," says Elliot Crampton, one half of the sibling duo. "I wrote it at a time when my depression and anxiety was spiralling, which ultimately led to a breakdown. I couldn't sleep, I could barely eat, I was crying at night time and overall I was very anxious. I sought professional help through my doctor and a therapist and tried to change my lifestyle with running, sea swimming and better food – and I have managed to pull my mental health into a much more positive place. I'm now coming off anti-depressants too. I'm also very lucky to have my family and a few very close friends who helped me navigate through this difficult time. The song is a sort of reflection of how manic my brain was at the time."
Mute The TV, formed in 2020, features the combined talents of Co. Wicklow brothers Elliot and Dylan E. Crampton. Individually, the duo have been releasing music under various guises since 2012, with appearances on the Late Late Show, Whelan's Ones To Watch and various Irish festivals.
The band are currently working on their debut album, Love, Hate and Devotion.

"Something I relied heavily on during this time was listening to music," Elliot resumes. "As cliché as it is, it was an escape – hence the lyrics: 'Turn up the stereo, mute the TV/ It's all you gotta do to get through to me.'"
