The band were in the Lone Star State as they were billed to play the 2024 SXSW festival.
Galway alt rockers NewDad have shared a stripped back cover of Smashing Pumpkin's '1979' - complete with bodhrán and Julie Dawson's intimate vocals.
The cover, shared live from Texas is just under a minute, leaving fans hungry for a full version.
Performed outdoors on a porch, NewDad infuse '1979' with their own relaxed sense of dream pop and sonic texture.
The four-piece had travelled to the state to play South By Southwest Festival in Austin earlier this month, but they were one of the 12 Irish bands that withdrew from the festival.
NewDad and their Irish peers’ decision to boycott SXSW after it was revealed that the US Army was a “super sponsor” of the event, as well as the defence contractor RTX Corporation, which has supplied weapons to Israel.

In lieu of playing the festival, NewDad alongside members of Cardinals, Chalk, Enola Gay and Gurriers, gathered at downtown Austin’s Velveeta Room to show solidarity with Palestine and read a statement on the artists decision to boycott SXSW.
Pierce Callaghan of Gurriers said:“Sponsorship of the festival from defence contractors and those selling arms to destroy innocent lives is an act we find disgusting and reprehensible" .
The dream pop band released their debut album Madra in January of this year and received an impressive 9/10 from Hot Press.
NewDad are also among the number of Irish musicians billed to play this year's Glastonbury Festival.
