WATCH: Northern Irish artist Cathal Murphy shares self-directed 'Frame' visuals
Cathal Murphy also plays and writes as part of contemporary Irish folk group Cúig, recording two albums and touring across Europe and the US over the last number of years.
Camlough artist Cathal Murphy has shared the self-directed music video for his debut solo single, 'Frame'.
Filmed at a photography studio in Glasgow, the 21-year-old's latest track is the first single to be released from his debut EP - scheduled for release in June 2021.
'Frame’ delivers a jazz-infused, soulful pop song that evolves with a brooding bass and melodic electric guitar to striking effect. The intricate soundscape melds together to create a warm, alluring atmosphere, as Cathal’s soulful vocals and expressive songwriting describe the framework of a relationship success story that cuts deeper over time.
“The music video for ‘Frame’ is just one part of a short film," Cathal said of the new visuals.
"It's essentially a prequel to the next 'episodes' to come. We built the set ourselves which to a lot longer than anticipated to get right. Our singular aim was to give a visually stimulating and consistently engaging counterpart to the EP. All songs have a particular colour, shape or setting that accompanies its sound. The full video captures and matches each individual track sonically to what I think is its visual element."
“‘Frame’ paved the way for the rest of the EP," the Northern Irish rising star adds.
"I wanted it to reflect the mutual support in a relationship as well as the comfort that comes with that. I think that it can be pretty easy to get caught up in what can tear you apart, but 'Frame' is looking to acknowledge what keeps you together. It's about being constant despite whatever challenges may come to light. I have your back, you have mine...it’s a romantic sentiment at heart rather than contractual.”
