In the first of a new series of exclusive video interviews, our recent cover stars Picture This sat down with Hot Press's Stuart Clark for a remarkably candid conversation about the making of their new album, Life In Colour – and much more.
One of the topics up for discussion were the references to Kanye West – who premiered his highly anticipated new album, Donda, last night – in the Athy band's hit single 'LA House Party'.
As well as discussing the actual night that inspired the song, Ryan Hennessy noted that, in addition to the more obvious Kanye name-check ("Play my favourite song, please DJ/ 'Man, I miss the Kanye from 2008'/ Says the guy in the bomber off his face/ And that's so LA"), 'LA House Party' also features a blink-and-you'll-miss-it reference that not even the most keen listeners have noticed yet.
"That was a conversation I had on that night with a guy," Ryan says of the lyrics to 'LA House Party'. "I can't remember what the context was, but it is that classic thing of somebody being a bit hipstery, and being like, 'I miss the Kanye from 2008', or whatever...
"But there's actually a thing in the background of that song that nobody's noticed yet," he continues. "I shout, 'You ain't got the answers, Sway!' – which is from a Kanye interview that he had with Sway, back around that time. But if you listen to it, you'll actually hear it."
Before you rush off to give 'LA House Party' another listen, watch Picture This discuss life in London, performing on The Late Late Show with James Corden, famous friends, Hollywood, addictive personalities and more, in their full interview with Hot Press, below:
