Having teased it a couple of hours ago, Mick, Charlie, Ronnie and Keef have aired their new single, 'Living In A Ghost Town', and its accompanying video in full. First impressions? It's dirty, bluesy and very, very good.
Finished off by the guys in isolation, 'Living In A Ghost Town' was originally recorded a year ago for their upcoming album, but has been unleashed now because of its eerily prescient lyrics.
Here's what all four of the band have to say about their new baby.
"The Stones were in the studio recording some new material before the lockdown and there was one song we thought would resonate through the times that we’re living in right now," Mick reflects. "We’ve worked on it in isolation. And here it is – It’s called ‘Living In A Ghost Town’ - I hope you like it”
Adds Keith: “So, let's cut a long story short. We cut this track well over a year ago in L.A. for part of a new album, an ongoing thing, and then shit hit the fan Mick and I decided this one really needed to go to work right now and so here you have it , 'Living In A Ghost Town'. Stay safe!”
Next up Charlie: “I enjoyed working on this track. I think it captures a mood and I hope people who listen to it will agree.”
The last word goes to Ronnie who says: “Thanks so much for all your messages these past few weeks, it means so much to us that you enjoy the music. So we have a brand new track for you, we hope you enjoy it. It has a haunting melody, it’s called 'Living In A Ghost Town.'"
The Stones demonstrated how well they work together virtually at the weekend when they split-screened their way through 'You Can't Always Get What You Want' as part of Lady Gaga's One World Together At Home extravaganza and, well, stole the show.
Pat Carty is, as we speak, writing a theses on 'Living In A Ghost Town' - you just know he's going to ace it again! - and here for your long-read delectation is a classic interview with Ronnie from his time residing in Kildare.
