Former member of Scissor Sisters, Jake Shears, has released a new single days before the release of his new LP.
The single is called ‘Big Bushy Mustache’. It is a delightfully catchy and playful piece. While it contains shades of Scissor Sisters, it certainly seems like a progression for the artist. The video even contains a cameo from Queens of the Stone Age singer and guitarist, Josh Homme.
This is the third single to be released from the LP which drops on August 10. It’s the first release from Shears since the 2012 album Magic Hour, the last release from Scissor Sisters before their indefinite hiatus.
Since Magic Hour, Shears has kept busy. He starred as Greta in an LA production of Bent and made his Broadway debut in Kinky Boots, as Charlie Parker. Earlier this year, he published a memoir Boys Keep Swinging which received generally positive reviews.

Shears explained to Rolling Stone that all the songs on this new album were live sessions “Every song is recorded as a live take, with eight or nine musicians playing together. I had never done that; it was scary. I was just panicking. I remember standing in the vocal booth – because I would sing with the band when we were doing takes – and I just remember thinking, ‘This is how all my favourite records were made.’”
Jake Shears will be released on August 10 and is available for pre-order now. Until then, you can watch the latest single ‘Big Bushy Mustache’ below.
