Sinéad O’Connor’s daughter Roísín Waters has performed an affecting cover of her late mother’s hit ‘Nothing Compares 2 U’, during a tribute concert in Carnegie Hall on Wednesday evening.
The music of O’Connor and close friend and fellow artist Shane MacGowan, both of whom passed away in 2023, was celebrated during a special event in the storied New York City venue on Wednesday 20 March.
American singer songwriter Amanda Palmer captured the event, taking to social media to express the emotive impact the performance had on the audience.
“Oh man…I don’t think there was a dry eye in the house,” wrote Palmer on X. “Every other performer was crammed side of stage to watch this bittersweet majesty unfold.

“And my god, could you feel the power of musical alchemy in the hall last night. The soaring sharp needle of sung and played notes that tear us asunder and stitch us back together. The way it isn’t about any one thing. The way music can communicate more than mere words ever can.”
Sinéad O'Connor was found unresponsive at her home in London in July last year, with a coroner confirming that the iconic Irish singer "died of natural causes” in January.
