It is the third official single to be released by the band as part of their forthcoming album We Are Not Your Kind.
Slipknot's 'Birth of the Cruel' follows their recently released songs 'Unsainted' and 'Solway Firth' from their brand-new sixth album. Long-awaited by fans, it will be available on August 9 via Roadrunner.
The music video is a compilation of flashing clips showcasing the band members in a phone-friendly, vertical format. They can be seen wearing brand-new masks, gesticulating in their usual frightening way.
In typical Sklipnot fashion, the heavy song echoes sentiments of chaos, anger and rebellion via its lyrics and stomping riffes:
I'm overthrown/I'm over your throne/I'm over it
Sick-Sickened-Sickening/I'n stricken by the fist
Blessed are the fires that have burned me
Listen to this/The lesson is - never underestimate the agony
Death of the fool/Birth of the cruel
It's "one of the darkest chapters in Slipknot's history — it's that good. It's complicated, it's dark, it's heavy, it's melodic, it's fierce, it's angry and it's real, it's raw as hell and it's gonna be talking about a lot of things that people are going to need in their life right now," said Corey Taylor of the new album.

“These days the art we are making comes with the highest reward, because it’s taken the most time,” explained Clown. “Almost four years to create this emotion and temperature, and the reward now is nothing short of salvation.”
“This is the most time we’ve had to write a record, and work stuff out together,” added guitarist Jim Root. “One of my inspirations this time around was those artists that recorded full-length albums – not just songs. While the industry is moving toward singles, Slipknot wanted to make an album experience, front to back.”
Slipknot are currently on tour in the United States along with Volbeat, Gojira and Behemoth and recently unveiled new terrifying stage costumes which are their well-known trademark.
We Are Not Your Kind out on August 9, available for pre-order here.
