Watch That Sound
Fresh injects his soundtrack with minimal grooves, hypnotic house beats and the occasional funky breaks arrangement
Watch That Sound is the album former pizza deliveryman and Fatboy Slim collaborator Freddy Fresh has wanted to make for the last few decades. Granted, his most high profile release was with Norman Cook, but there’s far more depth to the Minnesota producer than his more obvious break beat work.
Focusing largely on atmospheric, at times cinematic electronic sounds and textures - check the wide screen title track and the deep space ambience of ‘Sockapella’ – Fresh injects his soundtrack with minimal grooves, hypnotic house beats and the occasional funky breaks arrangement.
However, it’s the deeply musical, evocative sounds that dominate. Played entirely live by Fresh, who eschews the use of samples, it’s a testament to one of electronic music’s greatest producers.
