The stunning video for The Murder Capital's new single was directed by Hugh Mulhern (For Those I Love, Fontaines D.C.).
Dublin post-punk band The Murder Capital have released a music video for their new single, 'Only Good Things', helmed by acclaimed director Hugh Mulhern.
The John Congleton-produced single follows the band’s celebrated debut album, When I Have Fears, which reached a Top 20 chart position in the UK, a No.2 position in their homeland, and featured in media end of year lists internationally.
After announcing the new song on their Instagram on July 2oth through a series of hints and various posts, the acclaimed Irish outfit teased the music video by posting a snapshot with the caption "tomorrow 9 am BST" on August 15. As promised, the video premiered the following day.

Starring the band's lead singer James McGovern strolling through a vast field of purple wildflowers, the music video offers a lighthearted, almost nostalgic, dreamlike feel.
The vibrant, bluish tint along with the blurred shots and slight grain the lays over the footage gives the video a look as if it was taken on a film camera. The soft grey clouds blend into McGovern as he sings into the sky, as if he's living within the memory or being swallowed up by a dream. The clips of a passionate kiss reinforce the brilliant love story the lyrics provide.

Speaking on the new single, front man James McGovern says, “This track for us has been an exciting evolution for the band. It’s so bright. It’s so colorful. This is a part of the narrative of the overall record that we feel reaches a real place of inner calm, inner peace but at its core, it’s a love song. You get a song like this where, the protagonist in this song is quite simply asking – not pleading – just willing to ask their counterpart to rid them of their intrusive thoughts, the devils on their shoulders and to be truly vulnerable.
"We’re so excited to go to a place like this because perhaps it’s not what is expected of us," he added. "It stood out to me during the creation of this record that it is more about the friends that are still here and celebrating those connections, those relationships and being unafraid of life and it’s many seasons. Where ‘Only Good Things’ stands within the record is at a moment where the sonic and the lyrical narrative especially, are of newfound joy.”
'Only Good Things' proves to be a completely different sound than The Murder Capital's debut album When I Have Fears. This song represents a new era for the band's music, with a bright and colourful sound that may hint at what is to come in an eventual sophomore album.
