Radiohead frontman Thom Yorke premiered a new song, ‘Gawpers,’ at the Philharmonie de Paris on Sunday night.
Accompanied by sibling pianists Katia and Marielle Labèque, Yorke performed the song as part of the joint concert Minimalist Dream House. An atmospheric, chilling track, ‘Gawpers’ sees Yorke assume the role of both performer and conductor, his movements expertly dictating the timing and feel of the piece. An audience member captured front-row footage of the performance, which you can watch below.
The performance also showcased Yorke’s first foray into classical music, a collection of piano tunes written for the Labèques entitled ‘Don’t Fear the Light,' and a performance of ‘Suspirium,’ a piece from Yorke’s soundtrack for 2018 horror flick Suspiria.
Yorke began his musical career when he formed the band that would become Radiohead whilst still in school. He released his first solo album, The Eraser, in 2006.
